Frequently asked questions.

How do I know if you're the right fit for me?

It’s important that you feel safe and comfortable with your counsellor.

That’s why I offer a free 15-minute phone consult before you book. It gives us a chance to briefly connect and see if working together feels right for you.

What issues do you work with?

As a generalist counsellor, I work with a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety and stress

  • Grief and loss

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • ADHD (with a focus on women and late diagnosis)

  • Low self-worth and self-esteem

  • Relationship or family challenges

  • Life transitions (career, identity, parenthood, etc.)

  • Burnout and overwhelm

  • Coping with past experiences

If you’re unsure whether your issue fits, feel free to reach out — I’m always happy to have a quick chat.

What can I expect in a first session?

Every session is a space for support, including the first. While it’s a chance for us to get to know each other, we’ll also begin exploring whatever’s on your mind or what you’re going through.

Some people find clarity or relief even in just one session, while others choose to continue over time. There’s no set formula — we work with what you need.

How are sessions held?

I offer counselling sessions in person at Illawong as well as online via secure video telehealth.

Both options are flexible, confidential, and equally effective — so you can choose what works best for you.

How long are sessions, and how often should I attend?

Sessions are 50 minutes long. Some people find weekly or fortnightly sessions helpful, while others come less frequently. We can talk about what works best for your needs and schedule.

Do I need a referral to book?

No referral is needed. You’re welcome to book directly at any time, or schedule a free phone consult first if you’d like.

Is online counselling effective?

Absolutely. Many clients find online sessions just as helpful as in-person therapy. The process is the same — you’re still supported in a safe, non-judgmental space.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes. Your privacy and confidentiality are taken seriously.

The only exceptions are rare situations involving safety or legal obligations, which I’ll explain clearly in our first session.

What’s your cancellation policy?

Your appointment time is set aside especially for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, I kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a 50% fee, and missed appointments (no-shows) will be charged at the full session rate.

I understand that life happens and unexpected situations, like illness or emergencies, can come up. If this happens, please reach out as soon as you can so we can look at options together, such as rescheduling or moving your session to telehealth where appropriate.
